2019 INTERNATIONAL AALA Outstanding Dissertation Award

We are excited to announce the winner of the AALA 2019 Outstanding Dissertation Award, which will recognize the most outstanding research contributions to the realm of Language Testing and Assessment.

After individual review and discussion among the award committee members, the 2019 AALA Outstanding Dissertation Award is given to the dissertation entitled "An Investigation of the Construct Validity of the CET-SET: Perspectives on the Construction and Use of Rating Scales" written by Xiaoyi Zhang from Shanghai Jiaotong University. This dissertation has demonstrated clear evidence of the candidate’s in-depth understanding of speaking assessment, especially from the perspectives of rating scales and their implementation for different types of speaking tasks in high-stakes language tests.

The awardee will be reimbursed $500 in travel expenses, have the conference accommodation covered and the registration fee waived, and be invited to the banquet. Moreover, the winner will also be awarded a certificate at the Awards Ceremony scheduled for the first day of the conference, October 17, 2019, at 9:00 a.m.
